BetBTC allows new users two immediate options; to create an account or to play on as an anonymous user.
As a cryptocurrency platform many users will prefer not to give away personal information and they’ll value the privacy option that BetBTC allows them. BetBTC is a betting exchange rather than a bookmaker, meaning users play against one another and the company takes a small percentage of each transaction. The default commission is 4% (on winning bets) which is well within the industry standard, and is superior to Betfair which is at 5%.
In its Quick Intro section BetBTC guides users through what an exchange is, what terms such as back and lay mean, and how the commission works. As part of the cryptocurrency community online BetBTC maintains a Twitter and Facebook presence, it has a sub-Reddit and it has its own bitcoin forum. The Facebook page is reasonably popular with 1,259 Likes whilst its Twitter has only 406 followers. It should invest more in its social media presence or it’s not worth having at all.
BetBTC does not have any ambassadors nor does it sponsor any tournaments or competitions. BetBTC also tells you how many users are online at any one time which is an interesting indicator as how to much the platform is being used.
BetBTC began life in 2015 and it doesn’t allow UK customers, though customers from all other countries are welcome. Where the company is physically based is unclear and this is not uncommon with bitcoin related companies.
BetBTC is sports betting focused although it does also offer dice games and blackjack.
In terms of sports at BetBTC customers have the option of betting on the following markets: Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Esports, Horse racing, Ice Hockey, Motor Sport, Snooker, Soccer, and Tennis.
The exchange does not offer a number of popular sports such as Golf and Handball, the former is increasingly a popular sport to bet on too so it would be well placed to add more options to its platform. There are also no entertainment or novelty wagering options on BetBTC which lets it down a little more, as politics is now a huge market and the majority offer at least something within it.
BetBTC offers some live betting options though as an exchange it mirrors one of the market leaders of Smarkets in that it doesn’t have a ‘Live’ section. Instead it offers a focused and limited pool of markets pre-match, which turn to live when they become such.
BetBTC does not offer any kind of live streaming which is unsurprising given its short lifespan, it’ll need to become more established and gain a much larger userbase before it invests in this.
Usability of the site
The BetBTC platform is simplified and easy to navigate. It looks smart and there is a search bar too which is always a strong addition to a betting site.
The most popular markets are listed on the left with ‘Other Sports’ just below. The logo mirrors the platform; it’s smart and simple. There is only one page as such and BetBTC does not offer numerous tabs horizontally along the top homepage which makes it stand out from others.
Another plus point to this site is its ‘Quick Intro’ feature and the fact that it offers a 100% Bitcoin deposit match. The site works fairly well on mobile but there is no app. In terms of customer support, BetBTC lets punters down a little. There is a ‘Requests’ form but the general idea is that you can contact them via Twitter or use the Reddit sub and forum to have your questions and queries answered by either the company or the community.
Bitcoin bettors increasingly have a wide range of options of where to bet but BetBTC remains somewhat unique in its offering. It’s an exchange and it offers an anonymous betting option so users don’t have to register. UK customers will likely look elsewhere but US and Asia based customers are likely to take to the platform.
