Sportbet Sportsbook Review
Online since 1997, SportBet have earned their place as one of the top bookmakers available in the US.
Established in San Jose, Costa Rica, SportBet saw their first casino open in November 1996. The bookmaker is licensed and regulated by the government of Costa Rica.
It is not currently available in the UK or France.
In 2009 SportBet, along with its sister company Island Casino, have recently become a subsidiary to 5Dimes. This puts SportBet alongside 5Dimes’ other business acquisitions including ChineseBookie, VietBet and BetAnySports which were all procured in 2008.
The site predominantly focuses on players from the US with American Football, Basketball, Baseball and Hockey making up the majority of wagers available. The site has many arms including a Casino, Live Dealer, Mini Games, Bingo, Racebook, Lottery and poker.
SportBet are very active across social media platforms, with thousands of followers across Facebook, Twitter and Google+ who receive regular updates on promotions and odds. There is also articles, statistics and news to be found on their website with the latest information largely catering for the US market.
As a subsidiary to 5Dimes, SportBet have a huge array of wagers offering very competitive odds. As well as future bets, there are also betting options for parlays, teasers, if bets and action reverses.
Despite the US focus, there is a good range of markets available, including:
American Football, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey, Football, Golf, Tennis, Motor Racing, Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing, Aussie Rules, Rugby, Cricket, Volleyball, E-Sports, Horses, Volleyball, Cricket, Cycling, Lacrosse, Athletics, Handball, Bandy, Wrestling, Snooker, Water Polo, Winter Sports, Darts, Table Tennis, Badminton, Yachting and even competitive eating.
These, on top of other betting markets like the Oscars and Politics, offers players a very competitive variety of sports. However, although there are many wagers available for the most popular sports, currently most sports mentioned have no wagers and this detracts from the overall experience.
Compared to Europe, live betting is not as well developed in the US. However, SportBet do have a facility available for in-play betting, giving players the ability to bet during commercial breaks.
There is no live cash out option available and the design is very basic with a severe lack of statistics and visuals available, with no live-streaming facility.
Usability of the site
As part of 5Dimes, the site is similar to its other sister companies, which would be good if the other sites were well designed. However, SportBet as a site feels very tired and confused, making it especially difficult for new players to feel welcome. The design is needlessly overcrowded and difficult to navigate and much more focus should be given to improving the layout. The mobile support is also not the greatest, with no apps on offer and a lack of care when it comes to the overall design.
There is a 50% bonus on up to $500 for new players. They also have a bonus reward programme for the long-term players with cash-back programmes, free payouts, rewards and more. Existing players can also get a ‘refer a friend’ bonus of up to $200.
The site only operates in English, but they are good at offering customer support for their English-speaking players. There is a live-chat service, e-mail address and customer care number available, and they are very quick to resolve any issues their players may have.
There are plenty of payment methods available, with the most popular options available, like Neteller, Skrill, MoneyBookers and even BitCoin for both deposits and withdrawals.
As a popular choice of bookmakers for the US players, it is easy to see why. SportBet offer great odds, exciting wagers and excellent payment options for its players. However, the very poor design and focus on the US market hinders the overall success of the site and there is room for much improvement.
